Чтобы научиться описывать квартиру (an apartment) или дом (a house), давайте проведем небольшую экскурсию.
Дом имеет следующие части: крышу (a roof), стены (walls), двери (doors), окна (windows). Внутри дома или квартиры мы видим потолок (a ceiling), стены (walls), пол (a floor). В доме есть коридор (a hallway), комнаты (rooms); в некоторых дома есть чердак (an attic) и подвал (a basement). В частном доме есть гараж (a garage), где мы можете запарковать свою машину (park your car).
Начнем с гостиной (a living room). В гостиной мы отдыхам (relax) и проводим время с друзьями и родными (spend time with friends and family). Мы можем сидеть на диване (sit on a couch/sofa) или на стуле (on a chair). В гостиной часто стоит книжный шкаф (а bookcase), а пол покрыт ковром (the floor is covered with a carpet) или ковриком (a rug).
Переходим в спальню (a bedroom). Мы спим (sleep) на кровати (on a bed). На кровати есть простынь (a sheet), подушка (a pillow) и одеяло (a blanket). Мы храним одежду (keep clothes) в шкафу (a wardrobe) или в гардеробной комнате (a closet) на вешалках (hangers), или в комоде (a dresser) в ящичках (inside the drawers). Вечером мы идем спать (go to bed/go to sleep), а утром просыпаемся (wake up). Иногда с будильником (with an alarm clock).
Теперь направимся в ванную комнату (a bathroom). В ванной комнате есть раковина (a sink), зеркало над раковиной (a mirror above the sink), душ (a shower) или ванна (a tub), унитаз (a toilet). В ванной вы смотрите в зеркало (look in the mirror), чистите свои зубы (brush your teeth), используя зубную щетку (a toothbrush) и зубную пасту (a toothpaste); принимаете душ (take a shower), используя шампунь и кондиционер (shampoo and conditioner), чтобы вымыть волосы (wash your hair), и мыло (soap), чтобы вымыть тело (wash your body); затем вы берете полотенце (a towel), чтобы вытереться (dry off).
Закончим нашу экскурсию на кухне (a kitchen). На кухне вы готовите (cook); делаете завтрак (make breakfast), обед (make lunch) или ужин (make dinner). На кухне вы храните пищу охлажденной в холодильнике (keep food cold in the fridge); а продукты, которые нужно заморозить вы кладете в морозильник (а freezer). Продукты, не требующие специальных условий хранения, находятся в шкафчиках с дверцами (inside cabinets) или на открытой полке (on a shelf). Пищу обычно предварительно подготавливают на рабочем столе (prepare food on the counter), а потом готовят на плите (cook on the stove) или в духовке (in the oven). Еду также можно подогреть в микроволновой печи (heat up in the microwave). На кухне мы используем кастрюли (pots), сковородки (pans), чашки для супа или салатов (bowls), тарелки (plates), вилки (forks), ложки (spoons) и ножи (knives).
И напоследок, отличие между словами home и house. Говоря о доме, как о здании или помещении, мы используем слово house. Например, я живу в маленьком доме = I live in a small house. Говоря о доме, как о месте, где мы отдыхаем душой и телом, мы употребляем английское слово home. Например, находиться дома = be at home или идти домой = go home.

I would like to describe the apartment I live in. I live on the fifth floor of a ten-story building. I have a five-bedroom apartment. Unfortunately, we don’t have a front hallway, and the front door opens directly into the living room which is connected to a kitchen. In addition, we have our bedroom, bedrooms for our two daughters (each of them has their own room), one more for my mother, and a spare room for guests. We also have a balcony that faces onto a park and the sea.
Our bedroom, which is neither big, nor small, has two windows that face some buildings and the sea. In the middle of this room there is a double bed with a sheet, two blankets and two pillows on it. It has a cover and there’s a picture with flowers above it. We don’t have a closet, but instead there are two white wardrobes to hang our clothes in and several shelves inside. There’s also a small blue dresser with four drawers, a full-length mirror hanging on a wall along with a small desk and chair where I work at times on my computer.
A bathroom is attached to our bedroom and has a shower, sink and toilet in it. There are some drawers under the sink and a big mirror above it. We have another bathroom in our apartment with a tub to take a bath.
A living room. There are two couches, a bookcase and a table for a TV in the living room along with some potted plants.
In the kitchen, I prepare food on the counter and cook it on the electric stove or bake it in the electric oven. There is also a microwave above the oven, which I very rarely use. We have many cabinets and drawers along the walls to store a lot of pots, pans and other cooking equipment and crockery in our kitchen. Although we have a dishwasher, I usually prefer to wash the dishes in the sink under the tap and dry them in plastic dish rack. There are also two fridges and a big dinner table in the kitchen.
